Clean Cut Futures was founded in 2024 by our Executive Director and lead barber, Cesar, while he was attending barber academy. What began as a way to complete his training hours inside the Whatcom County Jail quickly became something more meaningful. Through haircuts and conversation, Cesar saw how the barber’s chair could become a place of dignity, trust, and encouragement.

Cesar brings lived experience to this work. After overcoming addiction and rebuilding his own life, he recognized the power of meeting people where they are and speaking from a place of understanding and hope. He went on to become a Certified Peer Counselor and a Healing Centered Engagement Practitioner, helping shape Clean Cut Futures into more than a haircutting program.

Today, Clean Cut Futures provides haircuts, connection, and support to people who are incarcerated, youth served through our First Day Fresh back-to-school program, and local veterans. Everything we do is rooted in one belief: a haircut can be the start of something bigger.
